Michael Jackson Statue
The multi millionaire who bought the club back in 1997 said that Jackson had been a fan, which is why this was a fitting tribute to the late king of pop.
Al Fayed was close friends with the singer. Following the unveiling the 78-year-old happily danced along with some young fans to Jackson's music, but appeared surprised when asked whether the ground was an unusual choice for the statue.
“Bizarre? Why is it bizarre? Football fans love it. If some stupid fans don’t understand and appreciate such a gift they can go to hell”.
“I don’t want them to be fans. If they don’t understand and don’t believe in things I believe in they can go to Chelsea, they can go to anywhere else”.
“People will queue to come and visit it from all over the UK and it is something that I and everybody else should be proud of”.
The statue was originally going to be at Harrods before Al Fayed sold the department store but now Michael Jackson will sit outside Craven Cottage forever more – or at least until the very second that Mo sells up/pops his clogs.
It is a generally received opinion, that most of the statues of London are contemptible and vile. Fulham's effigy of Michael Jackson might be coming from a long tradition of terrible sculpting, but is it an all-time low? Could it be the ugliest statue in the country?
If like Mohamed, your are a fan of the former King of Pop why not try out our brand new Thriller dance party, at this stage I can not confirm nor deny that Mohamed will be teaching the class.
