Dirty Dancing on Stage

[Back]

Charles Spencer judges Dirty Dancing at the Aldwych Theatre a slick, soulless evening, lacking a true theatrical life of its own.

‘I decided I ought to catch up with Dirty Dancing. What's more, two middle-aged and normally entirely respectable female ballet teachers of my acquaintance wanted to see it, too, because the role of the sex-on-legs dance teacher played by Patrick Swayze in the film is now taken by the devilishly handsome Martin Harvey, formerly of the Royal Ballet, and making a highly successful transition to musicals'.

‘There's no mistaking the energy and talent on stage, but the show so slavishly attempts to recreate the film that it never establishes a theatrical life and rhythm of its own’.

If you don’t want to be criticized or judged, why not sign up to one of First Dance Classes? Or you could even let us host your Birthday/Hen Night for you with one of our amazing Dirty Dancing Parties
