Blondie
How could we forget that spring 2011 is exactly twenty years since Blondie’s ‘Rapture’ hit the US number one spot, and made rap music in general much more accessible to the mainstream. At the time Blondie were a key influence in the downtown New York underground music scene, this is one of the songs that really boosted the popularity of the new wave band.
Before the release of ‘Rapture’ the majority of the world had never heard of rap as a form of music; Fab Five Freddy and Jean – Michael Basquiat, two leading figures in 1980s rap, both stared in the interesting 1981 video for ‘Rapture’. In a 2004 issue of Rolling Stones Magazine, front lady Debbie Harry was asked what she thought ‘Rapture’ done for rap music:
"Creatively it did one thing in particular. It was the first rap song to have its own original music. Commercially it made rap viable for the mainstream charts. I don't think it was a tremendous influence. I am nowhere close to being a rapper."
She may not be a rapper, but Debbie Harry is a major super star and influential rock goddess! We don’t know anyone who wouldn’t want to be Miss Harry in hay-day, so that is why our 80’s experience hen party is great for any hen who wants to let loose and become a 80’s rock goddess in her own right!
