Regular exercise such as pole dancing, the can-can, burlesque or hula hooping can improve lifestyle as well as improving health, some of which include; increased levels of HDL ‘good’ cholesterol, lowering raised blood pressure, boosting your immune system and improving your mood by reducing anxiety which can be caused by stress and lead to depression. Here are the benefits of each class we run:

Burlesque Classes

Burlesque dancing movements aren’t aggressive, so it’s not a cardiovascular workout, but this sexy dance is really good for improving your posture – you’ll learn how to walk in heels and hold yourself in the correct manner. The dance is choreographed to music so there’s a rhythm and a flow, but our burlesque lessons are really for people who aren’t dancers because the steps aren’t complicated. It’s exercise in that you’re definitely moving and stretching your body, but this is all about loving yourself as you are, so the benefits of learning burlesque are beyond the physical!

Dancers come in all shapes and sizes, but in our burlesque classes it’s all about building confidence and celebrating your femininity. Polestars teachers help women on our burlesque courses to accept their bodies and to be more lively and sassy, so that the inner goddess can come out!

Pole Dancing Lessons

Polestars pole dancing lessons offer you many fitness and health benefits. You tone up. You get stronger. You get more flexible because you're dancing. As a cardiovascular exercise, pole dancing increases the heart rate to a healthy level and so increases overall fitness.

In our pole dancing classes, you’ll be performing pole tricks - holding your body weight up on the pole and spinning round, so that takes a lot of upper body strength. Stamina is improved over time throughout the pole dancing course and lean muscles develop, creating the toned dancers body.

Dance as a form of exercise has shown to increase well being through release of endorphins from the brain. Apart from being a fun activity, research suggests that young adults who participate in a healthy fitness regime are less likely to develop diseases such as; heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure and diabetes in later life.

Hula Hoop Classes

Hula Hooping is a retro activity that doesn’t just tone the midriff, as an exercise hooping burns a massive amount of calories pretty quickly (as many as 100 every 10 minutes). As well as developing excellent hand/eye co-ordination, joining our hula hoop classes can help boost your mood, your sex life and it can provide spiritual enlightenment. 

Polestars concentrates on the fitness side and our students usually notice a difference in the shape of their body if they practice hula hooping regularly. Exercise using a hoop tones the stomach, waist and back muscles especially. Although it’s a pretty intense cardiovascular activity, you’ll find that you’re having too much fun in our hula hoop lessons to notice you’re undergoing a full body work-out! So much more fun than the treadmill!

Can Can Classes

Can-can dancing is high kicking, high energy fun that is a fantastic way to exercise. Your flexibility will improve as, throughout the can-can course, you will learn fake splits, kicks and ‘highland flings’. Furthermore, your stomach muscles will receive a great remodeling. The force from your body that pushes your legs to kick higher comes directly from your stomach - after a two hour can-can lesson you will feel the intense workout experienced by your abdominals; they will gradually start to become firmer.

Can-can classes are also superb stamina builders; you will discover that you can last for longer as the weeks go on. The nature of can-can dancing gets your heart racing - perfect cardio vascular exercise. By gradually improving your stamina, you will be able to do things like running and walking up stairs for longer before getting tired.
