Polestars 'The Salty Sorts' Bizarre Burlesque
After their dazzling original performance at Madam Jojo’s, our Polestars students and our very first Burlesque Intermediate troupe, ‘The Salty Sorts’, have entered into Bizarre magazine’s ‘Battle of Burlesque’, the biggest ever nationwide search for weird talent. If successful, they will be once again gracing our stage with their saucy burlesque act at the Bizarre Ball!
On 1st June 2008, our fabulous burlesque girls took to the stage, in Polestars first live performance at Soho’s Madam Jojo’safter their 4 week intermediate course. Led by our lovely teacher Emma, the eight beauties, were dressed in saucy sailor outfits for their Nautical Naughtiness themed performance.
These seafaring sirens were on the hunt for their lost treasure and were so delighted when they found it, that they got their kit off! It was a cheeky, fun and daring performance and the audience was swept off their feet. The “Finger in the Pie” night was an exciting mixture of cabaret, dance and singing acts. It is unbelievable that only a couple of months ago, not only were ‘The Salty Sorts’ complete strangers to each other but that they had never even taken a burlesque class before. They were just a normal bunch of girls who wouldn’t have gone topless on a beach let alone get their kit off at Madam Jojo’s. Having worked really hard to put together a performance, they are excited about the opportunity to be onstage again especially at such a prestigious event!
In partnership with the biggest name in burlesque, Ministry of Burlesque, the “Battle of Burlesque” is looking for the very ‘best burlesque divas, variety performers, comics, dancers, and the most satirical and saucy stars in the Bizarre galaxy.’ Looking for inventiveness and entertainment, the performers have the tough task of making the Bizarre judges ‘skin prickle … hair wiggle and … funny bone jiggle!’
So here’s hoping that ‘The Salty Sorts’ saucy scrubbing, sailing and stripping will surprise, shock and satisfy in the Bizarre’s “Battle of burlesque”.
