Tim Regan
Name: Tim Regan
Age: 25
Which classes/parties you teach: Dirty Dancing
Hometown: Brighton
Different day job: Recruitment Resourcer and Freelance Instructor, Choreographer and Performer
How long have you been dancing: 6 years
What do you love most about dancing: Dancing gives you a buzz that you cannot get from any other activity. When the music starts pumping through you, you cannot help but move to the rhythm, and in a way its a type of freedom. Away from all the pressures and drama of the day, dance lets you express yourself, or even embrace a new character and release your inhibitions. It is my main passion in life, and I never want to stop.
Why did you started teaching dance: There is a certain joy I get from dancing and performing, and I wanted to teach so that I could help others share this feeling. There is nothing more rewarding than starting with a shy, nervous group, and then seeing them laugh and smile as they leave the lesson afterwards.
Why you love teaching at Polestars: As I have only recently joined the company, I have not yet taught at my first hen party. However, I am expected fun and enthusiasm from all the groups I will be teaching, and I cannot wait to start delivering classes they will really enjoy!
Best dancing experience: I used to teach and perform at Buck’s Rock Creative and Performing Arts Camp in Connecticut, USA, and I will never forget the night of the second dance show during my second summer working there. Both myself and my dancers had worked so hard every day for 3 weeks, I’d given up some of my days off to help the children look their best. And at the end of the show, when I was leaving backstage area, I was mobbed by so many of the parents who had come to see the show. They were telling me how much their kids were enjoying my
classes, how excited they were to perform in the show, and how privileged they felt to see my show dance. Now, a lot of my friends joke that it takes an awful lot for me to ever get emotional, but this was one of those rare occasions where as soon as I got back to my cabin, I shed a few joyful tears.
Best teaching moment: But I do have a random story. I used to teach Ballroom and Latin American classes on a cruise ship. However, on one cruise they had already hired Ballroom teachers. Now I was determined to prove to everyone what I could do, so I set up classes in another style that I thought the passengers would enjoy: belly dance. Crazy idea, I know, but it became an overnight sensation. After the first few classes, the whole ship were talking about my classes, and the numbers were swelling until it became a daily event, and even part of the evening entertainment. I am so thrilled I could make so many people happy on their holiday.
Fave food: Spaghetti bolognese
Fave films: The Step Up series, Dirty Dancing, Serenity, Cloverfield
