Rebecca, aka Toxic Cherry, teaches pole dancing classes, burlesque lessons and hula hoop classes along with pole, burlesque, can can, hula hoop and dirty dancing parties in Newcastle.
Hometown: Newcastle upon Tyne (party central).
Different day job: Chemistry PhD Student.
How long have you been dancing: I was actually a gymnast from a young age, hence dancing just seemed to be a natural progression as I got older and my body changed shape.  I have been pole dancing for 3 years, whilst performing burlesque and hoop for almost 2 years.
What do you love most about dancing: After spending each day in a stressful, grimy, science laboratory, dancing allows me to be artistically creative whilst helping me to escape from my intense studies.  I am truly ‘free’ when I dance and I love that feeling!
Why did you start teaching dance: Fitness and a healthy, active, lifestyle are my passion so I started to teach to meet like minded people who I could help to inspire with my love for pole and burlesque dancing.
Why do you love teaching at Polestars: Not only are Polestars a super efficient professional team to work with and for, but they really care about your happiness and personal development as an instructor.  You feel extremely valued as a member of the company.
Fave song to pole dance to: Well this really depends on my mood!  If I want to perform something heartfelt, emotional and full of big tricks, I like to use One Republic ‘Apologise’.  However, if I want to take a more flirtatious approach, it has to be Rihanna ‘Rude Boy’.
Fave song to burlesque dance to: Marilyn Monroe ‘I Wanna Be Loved By You’, as I perform my signature Toxic Cherry balloon routine to this gorgeous ‘cheesecake’ song!
Best dancing experience: Performing hoop in front of hundreds of people in a huge Greek amphitheatre in Kos (Summer 2010)
Most memorable teaching moment:  A lovely, and extremely shy, lady on my beginners pole course always wore thick tracksuit bottoms to class.  I had been very gently encouraging her to try a pair of shorts in order to help her pole grip.  I was over the moon when she appeared at the week 5 session in a pair of shorts and 6 inch stilettos ready to climb the pole!  This was a confidence boosting moment for my student and a proud moment for me as a fitness instructor.
Most embarrassing teaching incident: Not knowing where to put myself as the music stopped and the friction of a student’s shorts made a rather rude noise as she slid down the pole with her legs straddled!
Hobbies other than dancing: Stilt walking and shoe shopping, but not at the same time.
Personal motto: ‘Pop those hips’.
