Frequently Asked Questions

[Back]

Here at Polestars we all put our heads together and came up with some shared wisdom to answer the questions that come up the most. If you can't find the answer to your question here, feel free to email or call 020 7274 4865 with any further queries.

How many poles are there in the class?
Each of our venues has either two or three poles, which is perfect amount to balance health & safety and fun & fitness. Obviously it is imperative that the teacher is able to sufficently supervise each student when they are on the poles and our 2 hour classes mean that there is more than enough time to learn and practice all your new moves and tricks. Having two or three pole also means that you will get to know all the other students and this group dynamic provides a great supportive environment.

How many people are there in a class?
Dependent on which venue you are at and which class you are attending, the maximum number of people will either be 10 or 12 or 14.

Changing Facilities?
All parties are done in private function rooms where you are free to get changed. As well as this all the venues have toilets that can also be used.

Can my friend come and watch?
Unfortunately we can't allow people to watch the classes if they aren't participating. Most women feel very nervous about performing dance moves for the first time and it is quite unnerving to be watched by someone who isn't taking part in the lesson.

For hen parties, it will just be your group, so it's completely up to you who comes along and whether they participate!

How old do I have to be to do the classes?
Polestars enforce a strict age limit of 18 for all of our classes.

Can men join the classes?
All Polestars classes are for women only. If men want to learn with us, they are welcome to book private tutorials, but we can't allow them in our regular classes. Women book with us because they can be sure that they are learning in a women's only environment.

For hen parties, it is just your group, so you would be more than welcome to bring your male friends along.

Can I pay on the day?
Unfortunately we can't take any payments on the day. All payments need to be processed through the office and we can't allow our teachers to take payments.

What is your refund policy?

What is burlesque?
Many students feel a bit embarrassed about asking us what burlesque is so they miss out on all the fun by not booking! So we've come up with an explanation that should help you out.

Burlesque began in the 1840s, but achieved greatest popularity in the 1930s, when people were looking for a distraction from the Depression. It is a working class art form, which was designed to parody the traditions and culture of the upper classes.

It has made a comeback in recent years, with the new generation nostalgic for the glamour of this retro form of entertainment. Neo-burlesque is more about empowering women to feel good about their bodies and creating their own performances. Modern burlesque stars (or stars who have a burlesque element to their work) include: Dita von Teese, Immodesty Blaize, the Pussycat Dolls and  Christina Aguilera. For more information about what we teach, head over to our burlesque page.

What do I wear?
You can find information on our website about what to wear to pole dancing lessons, burlesque classes, can-can lessons and private parties.

Can I take my own alcohol?
All our Polestars venues are private function rooms of bars and hotels, so you will not be able to take your own alcohol. However, there will be plenty of opportunities to purchase drinks at the venue.

What if I can't make all my classes?
If you miss a pole dancing or can-can class - don't worry! Each week your teacher will recap all the moves from the week before, so you will get a chance to catch up. If you miss a burlesque lesson, unfortunately you won't be able to make this up. Each week is a different burlesque style, so while you won't be behind the class - you will miss out on that style!

For all courses, we are unable to give refunds/discounts if you miss a week.

Why don’t you have mirrors in your venues?

As a lot of our parties and courses are confidence based, we have decided that if there were mirrors in the venue then it may prove a distaction and could lead to you feeling more self conscious.
